Bu Von Blume is funk. Bu Von Blume is disco. Bu Von Blume is cumbia, punk, ska, soul, Balkan. Whatever it takes to get the people moving and grooving, really.
Vancouver Island multi-instrumentalist Lou Kinglish (normally an accordion player) teamed up with some of the heaviest hitting funk, brass, jazz and punk virtuosos around to create Bu Von Blume, a band that mixes hilarious theatre antics with downright dangerous bass and horn lines to cook up a real dance fiasco. With a background in child and youth education and entertainment as well as improv comedy and theatre, the members of Bu Von Blume have massaged this experience into a unique brand of collaborative all-ages spectacular. Audience members become band members, onlookers become choreographed dancers, but nothing is forced or expected: a truly inclusive, supportive, and loving boogie wonderland.
Since forming in 2022 in the little village of Cumberland BC, Bu Von Blume has been approached to play many festivals and public events, usually playing late, where people come for the dance and the improvisational mysteries and stay for the giant toothbrush (there’s a giant toothbrush). Bring your dancing shoes and wear something outrageous - there will be funk.

Lou Kinglish, the fearless leader of the wombat pack known as Bu Von Blume, was once a simple child performer. He would don his trusty kangaroo costume, snatch his accordion off the floor, and caper around at childrens birthday parties. One day he thought it would equally funny and fun if he were to dress like a sunflower, compose funk songs about vegetables, and perform with the best musicians in the land instead of hanging with toddlers ALL the time. Thus Bu Von Blume was born: toddler inspired, funk infused. Lou likes dinosaurs, mountain biking, cookies, flutes, hot springs, poetry, eggnog and Dungeons and Dragons.
Born at a young age and a veteran of the rhythm sticks, Adam is the calm voice of reason in a band of chaos. Adam likes margaritas and friends, and dislikes unpleasant things. Rumour has it that Adam has tattoos of every festival he's ever played somewhere on his body. He's saving his forehead for the festival that gives him a complete accurate backline listing well before he is packing to leave.
Raised by wolves for three days and subsequently abandoned when they realized he was not canine, Tony turned to the trumpet for support, finding solace in the dulcet tones of the brass horn before he could speak but a word. Living ferally in the woods until the age of 18, Tony still can barely speak English, preferring the simple gesture of a point-and-grunt communication style to complex language. Occasionally, to give his dainty lips a break, Tony will play guitar in the band - a skill he acquired after finding an old guitar on the ground when running naked through Cumberland at the age of 16.
50% man, 50% saxophone, 50% monster truck, Pete's saxophony has made him famous across six whole blocks in Victoria, BC, as that is where they can mostly hear him. Despite being known for his ability to stay awake for inhuman amounts of time, Pete has never been late to or missed a gig. When not growling through metal with BVB, Pete enjoys long walks on the beach, staring deeply into promoters' eyes, and being paid appropriately for his musical abilities.
Guitar teacher by day, and... still a guitar teacher by night, Shaun holds down the low end for the band, interspersing tasty licks within locked-in grooves. Hailing from the great land of Onterrible, Shaun has quickly become "Mr. Cumberland", acquiring a Delica, a baby, an add-on suite, and innumerable mountain bikes in just a few short years of residing on the island. When not plucking strings, Shaun can be found searching out a good beer, ski-touring in Mexico, and scuba diving in Afghanistan.
Dan once went to Italy, and decided that in order to pay homage to the culture he was immersed in for a week, he would name his solo act an italian word. Trombonissimo fills out the horn section, creating delectable harmonies in between being the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. Fun trivia: Dan once challenged Chuck Norris to a trombone-off. Chuck Norris never showed, he was so scared.
